About Nile Valley Herbs

Hibiscus Tea and the Nile Valley – A Brief History

Hibiscus tea clearly was the beverage favored by the Pharaohs of the ancient Nile Valley when they wanted to refresh themselves in the desert heat. In fact, Hibiscus Tea, throughout history until the present, has been a preferred beverage in many cultures including China, Mexico, the Caribbean, and even Europe.

All over the world people drink hibiscus tea for health (hibiscus tea lowers blood pressure), for cooling (hibiscus tea is a refrigerant and helps cool the body), for a relaxing refreshment (hibiscus tea contains no caffeine), for ceremonies (every wedding and celebration in Sudan and Egypt is “toasted” with glasses of hibiscus tea), and for enjoyment (hibiscus tea is a beautiful rich crimson color and is tart and delicious). You too can enjoy this delicious beverage! It’s not just for Pharaohs anymore — try some Nile Valley Herbs hibiscus tea or hibiscus mint tea, hot or cold.

Message from the owner of Nile Valley Herbs

My name is Awad Abdelgadir. I run a small business called Nile Valley Herbs, Inc. We sell our hibiscus and hibiscus mint tea to individual consumers, restaurants, coffeehouses, health food stores, and grocery stores. A part of the proceeds from our sales goes toward implementing projects in my home village and neighboring villages in Nubia.

Some of our projects have been:

  • The provision of a clean water supply and distribution system; the entire village now has clean running water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and home gardening
  • Assistance to the villagers in building a school and contributing annually to school improvement projects
  • Sending school supplies donated by children in Austin, TX
  • The creation of computer labs in 6 elementary schools in 2 villages
  • The construction, equipment, and staffing of a health clinic (including pharmacy, laboratory, and ambulance) which serves several villages

We always interested in help for our projects. For more information, please contact the Mother Maryam Foundation. To place an order and try our delicious teas, please click here.

Some of Our Customers Comments

Just wanted to let you know that at one point on a trip to the Dr. – he had me go off my blood pressure medicine because my pressure had dropped from 175/90 to 108/75 thanks to the Hibiscus tea. Wonderful stuff. I’ve had high blood pressure since I was 33 – am over 82 and just can’t believe the power of this great tea. Everyone who has high blood pressure problems should try it.

I purchased my first package of Hibiscus Tea today from a local store. I had been having an elevated blood pressure reading for several weeks. Consistently I had been having headaches and a BP of around 140/90 with spikes higher than that.

A friend of mine suggested the Hibiscus Tea and I sent my daughter out to get it. I drank half a cup around 5:00pm today, and finished the cup at about 7:45pm. I noticed my headache was gone and not really thinking my BP was down, I asked my daughter to check it again.

To our amazement, it was 122/78……..I was shocked and delighted. Tonight I feel better than I’ve felt in weeks. I will continue to drink Hibiscus Tea daily in addition to dietary changes.

Thank you so much for providing this amazing tea!

I am absolutely delighted with the hibiscus tea. I ordered it a few months ago and fell in love with the taste. I have been able to discontinue my hypertension medication under medical supervision and I believe it is thanks to the hibiscus tea. I had stage 1 essential hypertension. I am so happy to medication-free again. Thanks!

I am in shock. I have been dealing with high blood pressure for about 5 years. Bought tea at Central Market. Have been drinking it twice a day for 4 days and the result is readings down to 112-117.
