Today's supermarket is filled with thousands of prepackaged foods for consumers to choose from. Making the best nutritional choice can be difficult for most of us. The nutrition facts label on the packaging can be a wealth of information to help you get the most nutrition for your food dollar.

First, it was the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, requiring that food producers include the amounts of trans fats on food labels. Then, in December, it was the New York City Board of Health, voting to ban trans fats from New York restaurants by July 2008. Similar bans have been proposed or discussed in Boston, Los Angeles and Oakland County, Mich.
